"What ever effects one, indirectly effects us all"

Talia chose the quote "What ever effects one, indirectly effects us all." This is a great example of one of Martian Luther King Jr. main points, he shows that the actions of one group can effect another.  While the white southern Christians  try to advocate for neutrality their inaction helped lead to the peaceful protests, because action should be taken against injustice.  Martian Luther tries to show the white southerners that these peaceful protests were justified. He uses appeals to their religion and shows the steps he took before the protests began. The quote may also  be alluding that the injustice done to the African American community is now indirectly and directly (through the protests) affecting American society as a whole.

  1. I am in agreement when you point out the meaning behind the quote,”The action of one group can affect another.” Martin Luther King, Jr. saw the importance of getting the support and approval of the white southern christians. I believe he knew that the white southern christians were more comfortable with a stance of neutrality. White southern christians were more comfortable with the idea that life for blacks wasn’t all that bad. Martin Luther King, Jr. knew he had to get the whites to see that they needed to do more than just pray and be patient. You are right, this attitude of inaction lead another group to have an attitude of “let us take action!” Your comment about taking action against injustice is right. One action lead to another. The civil rights demonstration lead to passage of the civil rights law. I agree that he had to explain that his strategies were well thought out and based on “Christian” ideals. He knew that only this view of the civil rights protest would be seen as a justifiable course of action that needed to be taken.
I see the connection you make in your last statement. You say that injustice done to the African American community is now directly and indirectly (through the protests) affecting American society as a whole. I see that as true if you look at the way media factors into all the horrible things happening to people all over the world, every day on your televisions and through the internet. It affects us indirectly even if we are not always directly affected.
